INTRODUCTION TO QUANTUM CHAOS -------------------------------------------------------------- NBIfAFG Fysik 711B Fall semester 1999 Henrik Bruus, Predrag Cvitanovic', Andy Jackson -------------------------------------------------------------- Problem session 8: 10:30 - 12:15 tue 2 nov 99, Aud. C - NBI Blegdamsvej Random Matrix Theory III ----------------------- I think this is what we agreed is a sensible set for tomorrow (cannot find the elusive Muratore): Jackson notes problems - all except 7? Numerical simulations of dynamical systems ----------------------------------------- Exercise: (still applicable, I think) sect 5.1 read about the linear stability Jacobian matrix, start trying to implement it for the Roessler flow. (hint: might be easiest to start by measuring growth in the distance separating two nearby trajectories, ie., estimate expanding Lyapunov exponent.) compute (numerically, of course) the eigenvalues of the linearized stability matrix for the Roessler Poincare section fixed point (the one inside the strange attractor) sect 2.1.2 (optional:) try using your newly won skills on collinear helium. (serious glitches expected here!) ------------------------------------------------------------------- For schedule and other details click on www.nbi.dk/~predrag/NBIcourses/Fysik711B-99-sched.html If you would like to get off this lecture announcements listing, please unsubscribe: To: info@complex.nbi.dk Subject: unsubscribe chaos_course -------------------------------------------------------------------
